Abstract
Abstract
Introduction: Complex dental cases, particularly those involving extensive tooth loss and periodontal issues, require a multidisciplinary approach for successful outcomes. Telescopic dentures and open flap debridement (OFD) are key techniques that, when integrated, offer distinct advantages. This case report highlights the effectiveness of combining telescopic dentures and OFD in managing complex dental conditions, focusing on their roles in providing stability, retention, and improving periodontal health.
Case Report: A 67-year-old male patient presented with the loss of all upper teeth, while the lower teeth remained with teeth 34, 35, and 44 showing degree 1 mobility, and teeth 31, 33, 41, 42, and 43 exhibiting degree 3 mobility. After clinical and radiographic evaluations, a treatment plan was devised involving OFD and the use of full dentures for the maxilla and telescopic dentures for the mandible.
Discussion: The integration of telescopic dentures and OFD provided a comprehensive solution for this patient. Telescopic dentures were used for the mandible, offering excellent retention and stability, improving function and comfort. OFD was employed to treat advanced periodontal disease in the lower teeth, promoting healing and stabilizing the remaining teeth. This combined approach restored function and aesthetics while addressing periodontal health, contributing to the long-term success of the treatment.
Conclusion: Combining telescopic dentures and OFD is a highly effective strategy for managing complex dental cases, offering stability, retention, and enhanced periodontal health for successful long-term outcomes.
