Abstract
Objective: Linear gingival erythema (LGE) is a specific intraoral lesion may be found in people with HIV. The prevalence of LGE in Indonesia is unknown. Previous studies reported about 3-5% of the total subjects (2-7 people) present LGE, and did not provide information on respondent characteristics, clinical characteristics of LGE, and ARV treatment history.
Material and Methods: A cross-sectional research method was used in this study, and netted 186 subjects, 91 subjects were found to have gingivitis suspected of LGE. The study data included clinical picture, CD4 value to determine immunodeficiency status, and mycological examination to see the growth of Candida Spp. The clinical picture was validated by 3 oral medicine specialists, declared LGE if the majority agreed.
Result: Descriptive analysis 35.2% (32 people) were positive for LGE, and LGE was mostly found in the anterior region. Chi-Square test showed that there was no association of LGE with calculus, smoking, ARV treatment, immunodeficiency status, and growth of Candida Spp.
Conclusion: LGE has no relationship between local factors that cause gingivitis in general (calculus & smoking), medication and immunodeficiency status of people with HIV.
