Abstract

Background: Ossifying fibroma is a benign, encapsulated neoplasm consisting of various amounts of bone or cementum-like tissue within fibrous stroma. This lesion is a slow growing, asymptomatic and widespread lesion in surrounding area. In the head and neck area, ossifying fibroma can be observed in the jawbones, craniofacial bones, and the anterior cranial fossa. Notably ossifying fibroma recognized originates from odontogenic sources, related to the growth and trauma of the periodontal ligament. Multipotential mesenchymal cells from the periodontal ligament can form bone and cementum, indicating that ossifying fibroma occurs only in the tooth-bearing areas of the maxilla and mandible. The management of patients with ossifying fibroma at Hasan Sadikin General Hospital in Bandung includes enucleation, dredging, and resection, chosen according to the indications and clinical condition of the patient. In this study we  present   Characteristics and Management of Ossifying Fibroma at Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department, Hasan Sadikin General Hospital During Period January 2020 - December 2023.
