Abstract
Introduction: An aberrant frenum can cause a misplaced traction on the gingival margin resulting in a gingival recession. This recession can cause problems on Conservative and Aesthetic treatment due to periodontal trauma caused by such treatment. This case report seeks to outline such case and how it hampers a conservative treatment. Case: A 25 year old female patient was referred the Periodontology Department of Hasanuddin Dental Hospital from the Conservation Department. The patient was indicated for a Dental Crown, however due to an aberrant frenum causing a gingival recession the patient was referred for a frenectomy. Case Management: Patient received a routine scaling treatment followed by Dental Health Education outlining the condition. After signing an informed consent, a frenectomy was performed on the Upper Labial Frenulum. Conclusion: Frenectomy can remove the traction that causes the gingival recession. After a 1-month healing period, the patient was ready to undergo dental crown treatment.
