Abstract

Objective: To ascertain the difference in cortical bone thickness between T2DM and non-T2DM. Materials and Procedures: An analytical technique using a cross-sectional methodology was applied in this investigation. The samples were split into two groups, each containing 100 digital panoramic radiograph samples, one for those with T2DM and the other for non-T2DM. Using the CliniView application, the study measured the thickness of the mandibular cortical bone for the PMI, MI and AI based on digital panoramic radiographs.

Results: The results showed that the mean value of the non-T2DM group was thicker than the DM group. The non-T2DM group had higher values than the T2DM group analyzed by Mann-Whitney using panoramic radiographs. In the group of patients with T2DM, the mean value of the mandible's cortical bone thickness was PMI 0.210 ± 0.043, MI 3.252 ± 0.656, and AI 2.787 ± 0.375. In the non-T2DM group, the values were PMI 0.241 ± 0.028, MI 3.453 ± 0.419 and 3.344 ± and AI 0.262.

Conclusion: Based on PMI and AI, there was a statistically significant difference in the thickness of the mandibular cortical bone between patients with T2DM and non-T2DM. Based on MI, there was no discernible difference in the thickness of the mandibular cortical bone between patients with T2DM and non-T2DM.
